The Unlikely Resurrection of Jon Snow: A Deep Dive into George R.R. Martin’s Vision

As George R.R. Martin's 'A Song of Ice and Fire' series reaches its conclusion, the curiosity over the resurrection of Jon Snow has sparked intense debate among fans. I, personally, love Jon Snow, yet I'm not as devastated as some might be if he doesn't return to the land of the living in his familiar human form.

The Fate of Jon Snow in the Books

Based on The Winds of Winter, George R.R. Martin hinted that people would argue whether Jon is dead or alive. This ambiguity sets the stage for multiple interpretations, especially given his previous works. It's almost certain that Jon won't be resurrected in the human form that we know. Instead, Jon might live in Ghost and serve as the undying King in the North. Alternatively, he might continue his journey beyond the Wall, perhaps like Coldhands.

Jon Snow and the Show's Fiction

Initially, many fans believed that Jon and Daenerys would be together, a decision heavily influenced by the television adaptation. However, The Winds of Winter and the show's creative liberties suggest a different narrative. In the books, Jon is not Aegon; instead, there are two Aegons: Young Griff (Aegon VI Targaryen) and Jaqen H'ghar. Young Griff was to marry Daenerys and conquer Westeros, but Targaryen politics dictate that one must retrieve the Iron Throne first. Jaqen, who will meet Daenerys, is fated to join forces with Arya, not Jon.

A Disappointing but Romantic Ending

I already anticipate being deeply disappointed with Jon's ending, much like the show's finale. Jon was arguably one of my favorite characters from the start. His tragic fate is a testament to the decisions he made, such as being Lord Commander of the Night's Watch. Despite his struggles, his story ended fittingly, showcasing that our actions have consequences. However, I'm relieved to know that Arya won't marry someone she considers her brother, preserving the integrity of their relationship. Jaqen H'ghar and Arya's romance, in particular, will play a significant role in the upcoming books.

Conclusion

While the fate of Jon Snow remains uncertain, George R.R. Martin's vision surely guides the narrative. Whether Jon returns or not, his legacy in the series will leave a lasting impact. The bittersweet conclusion of A Song of Ice and Fire will certainly resonate with fans who have followed the complex web of characters and their intertwined destinies.
