The Future of Chiranjivis: Hanuman and the End of Kali Yuga

Jay Hanuman! In Hindu mythology, the term Chiranjivi refers to beings who live forever, leading many to question their fate at the end of the Kali Yuga. Venkatji explains that Ji means soul, and Chiran means forever, so Chiranjivis are immortal beings who live in every age.

Immortality and the Kali Yuga

In the Hindu tradition, Chiranjivis such as Lord Hanuman are granted immortality, allowing them to exist beyond the confines of the Kali Yuga. The boon was granted to Lord Hanuman by Mata Sita and is one of several benefits he received, including Nav Nidhis and Ashta Siddhi.

It is said that after the Kali Yuga, Hanuman will become the next incarnation of Lord Shiva for the next Yuga, indicating the dynamic nature of the divine beyond human comprehension. Just as God manifests in different forms in different ages, these beings are eternal and remain unaffected by the changing times.

What Happens to Chiranjivis at the End of Kali Yuga?

The concept of the Maha Pralaya or complete annihilation at the end of a Mahakala (Great Age) is central to Hindu cosmology. However, elevated personalities like Lord Hanuman and others like the Chiranjivis will not be affected by the annihilation. Instead, they will ascend to higher heavenly planets that remain unaffected by such events.

According to traditional beliefs, the fate of Chiranjivis is closely linked to Lord Krishna. It is believed that the souls of these immortals, including Hanuman, will eventually dissolve into the heart of Lord Krishna, symbolizing the ultimate spiritual journey. This is akin to the fate of other spiritual beings like Ravana and Bhishma Pitamaha, whose souls have already merged with the divine.

Concluding Thoughts

The ultimate message is that the continuation of these great beings is a testament to the eternal nature of spiritual truth. While the physical world undergoes constant change, the spiritual essence of these divine beings remains constant. Following the path delineated by Krishna in the Bhagavad Gita can lead to a permanent liberation from the cycle of birth and death.
