The Imperial Throne

The Imperial Throne, held by the Padishah Emperors of House Corrino, serves as the ultimate authority in the Imperium. While the Emperor's powers are substantial, they are still constrained by the Great Convention, which limits his ability to issue edicts outside the framework of his constitutional duties.

The Sardaukar, the Emperor's personal elite troops, are responsible for enforcing Emperor's decrees and maintaining order. The Imperial Throne also oversees the regulation of atomic weapons and by extension, the allocation of power within the Imperium. The Landsraad

Houses Minor, on the other hand, are typically regional or artisanal governments. While they do not require a traditional organizational structure, they are still subordinate to a Great House. Houses Minor can change alliances for more favorable Great Houses, even if that Great House is their planetary ruler's enemy. These fluid allegiances often depend on bribery and pacts.

CHOAM: The Combine Honnete Ober Advancer Mercantiles

CHOAM, or the Combine Honnete Ober Advancer Mercantiles, regulates inter-house trade. It operates as an independent body, balancing the interests of the Emperor, Houses Major and Minor, and the Landsraad. CHOAM is a private company that invests in controlling the spice trade, producing ledgers of public trade values, and applying stamps to legitimate goods. Shareholders in CHOAM hold voting power and control over the company's decisions, making it a crucial player in economic and political spheres.

The Spacing Guild

The Spicing Guild operates as the sole monopoly of space travel in the Imperium. They manage navigation and propulsion technologies, which gives them considerable power and influence. While the Guild does not frequently engage in political matters, they play a critical role in maintaining the status quo, often by limiting the ability of Great Houses to wage open warfare. The Guild's Navigators disdain any disruption to their spice supply, as it is essential for their prescient visions.

The Bene Gesserit

The Bene Gesserit is a powerful monastic order that trains women to take on influential roles in society. Externally, their order is known for producing scholars, artists, and soothsayers. However, their true purpose is social control. Many members of the Bene Gesserit are secretly agents within the Imperial court, influencing the course of politics for centuries. Their goal is to attain the Kwisatz Haderach, a powerful superbeing who can foresee the entirety of human history. This goal drives their actions and influences.

The Bene Tleilax

The Bene Tleilax is another monastic order that provides luxurious and specialized services such as genetic chimerae, skilled spies, and deadly Face Dancers. They are highly respected and feared in the Imperium for their technological prowess and assassin capabilities. The Bene Tleilax view humanity with disdain, embracing nihilism and opportunistic capitalism. Despite their revolting reputation, they are in constant demand for their unique offerings.

The Ix Consortium

The IX Consortium is a group of nine planets that house the largest assembly of technologists and scientists in the Imperium. They are responsible for inventing many of the advanced technologies used throughout the Imperium, such as ornithopters, defensive shields, and Foldspace engines. Despite their contributions, the Ixians remain secluded and face constant xenophobia, having been denied a voice in Imperial politics for centuries.

The Fremen

The Fremen are one of the most intriguing factions in the Dune universe. Long considered simple desert wildmen, the Fremen are actually one of the few truly free human populations, paying no fealty to any ruler. Descended from the Zensunni Wanderers, they are fiercely independent and survive through pragmatism and fatalism. Their true numbers and power remain unknown, and this secrecy ensures their continued advantage.
