Favor and Disfavor: The 100's Character Dynamics

As a fan of the series The 100, I've often found myself weighing the complex and nuanced characters against each other. This article delves into the contrasting views of several beloved and despised characters to provide a deeper understanding of the show's dynamics and character growth.

Resilient and Empowering: Favorites

Characters like Murphy Clarke and Octavia have consistently stood out as some of the most resilient, powerful, and adaptive figures in the show. Their unpredictable and assertive nature often led them to assert their dominance in unexpected scenarios.

Additionally, Raven, Jasper, and Murphy Clarke also made a strong impression through their authenticity and commitment to their characters. These three were undeniably true to their essence, making for compelling viewing.

A Troublesome Trio: Least Favorites

While the previously mentioned characters brought a sense of hope and determination, there were also those who were a source of contention among viewers. This includes Abby Thelonius, Bellamy Blake, and Clarke.

Abby Thelonius made a significant ruckus during Season 3 with her issues regarding the chip implant, causing chaos and confusion. Fast forward to Season 6, she led a tumultuous journey for Bellamy, culminating in a cliffhanger that left viewers fuming.

Bellamy Blake had a particularly controversial evolution. Initially a rugged leader and lover, he transformed into a destructive force in Season 3, only to rise from the ashes in Season 7, embodying deep anguish and despair. His indecisiveness and his 'maybe-I-like-Clarke' moments were particularly irritating for fans.

Clarke Griffin developed a God-complex, excusing most of her poor decisions. Her overconfidence and willingness to harm her people to achieve her goals made her hard to empathize with. Despite her intelligence and leadership, her lack of compassion and self-righteousness made her a less-than-stellar character to follow.

My Favorite: Octavia

I have a deep admiration for Octavia. Her unwavering strength and consistent defiance of expectations make her a standout. Despite becoming the psychotic Red Queen, her growth and journey were compelling enough to keep me invested in her character.

The Late Bellamy and Abby: The Turning Point

The late seasons of the show introduced complications for characters like Bellamy and Abby. Bellamy's journey resulted in a complex, almost bewildering turn, as if he realized his past actions and was fighting the demons within. Abby, not trusting her daughter, remains one of the most frustrating aspects of the show for me. Her actions felt illogical and at times, maliciously manipulative.

Rounding Up: Other Characters

I also had a complex relationship with other antagonists. Pike, the leader of thebad guys, his son, and Maya were all standout characters known for their unsettling behaviors. Pike with his white-suited aura of peace and love, and the son of the leader of Mont Weather, left a lasting impression with their unpredictable and often cruel actions. Maya, the late-season antagonist, was divisive, as I tended to dislike her for her antagonistic role.

Conclusion

Overall, the series The 100 has provided a canvas for rich character development and vivid storytelling. While some characters had their shining moments, others were marred by questionable decisions and their continued presence was sometimes a source of frustration. Nonetheless, I believe the show's complexity and depth have made it a beloved series among many.
