Why is Liberalism Wrong? A Gen Z Perspective

As part of Generation Z, which grew up in a world dominated by liberal ideologies, I've observed several common issues with the liberal mindset. In this article, I will critically examine some of the perceived flaws within liberal thought, from moral absolutes to specific policies and behaviors.

A Lack of Moral Absolutes

One of the most prominent issues within the liberal mindset is the lack of moral absolutes. This means that they often do not commit to principles but only follow them when it suits their convenience. This flexible approach to ethics can lead to inconsistent behavior and a lack of accountability.

Disregard for Marriage

Another significant issue with modern liberal society is the erosion of traditional marriage. The increasing number of out-of-wedlock births can lead to higher incidences of psychological problems for children. Instead of solely focusing on personal freedom, liberals should also consider the broader social impact of their choices.

Sexual Recklessness

The liberal approach to sex has often been criticized for its lack of responsibility. Promiscuity among young adults has led to a significant rise in sexually transmitted diseases (STDs). While not all liberals are promiscuous, those who are often hold themselves to a higher standard of honesty about their behavior.

According to recent statistics, 1 in 5 Americans now holds an STD due to liberal attitudes. This issue highlights a broader problem of a lack of personal responsibility and a refusal to acknowledge the consequences of one's actions.

Hypocrisy

Liberals often present themselves as open-minded, but their actions frequently contradict their principles. For instance, many Internet atheists claim to be scientific but lack evidence for their secular beliefs. When challenged on basic scientific principles, their arguments often fall apart. This hypocrisy extends to their advocacy for certain social causes, where they expect others to accept their views without question.

Entitlement

The liberal mindset often promotes entitlement, both in personal and political contexts. Many believe that others should pay for their bills, despite the lack of evidence or justification for such a claim. This sense of entitlement is not limited to liberals but is a broader issue within Western society.

Christian Liberals: A Misunderstanding of Religious Doctrine

Christian liberals often claim to follow the teachings of the Bible but frequently misunderstand or wilfully misinterpret key concepts. For example, the greatest commandment is to love God with all your heart and soul, and to love your neighbor as yourself. However, many Christian liberals prioritize their material success over following these principles. Christ specifically rejected a man's request to sort out his family's inheritance, demonstrating that personal success is not a primary focus for Christians.

Improper 'Morals'

Lack of Disciplining Children

Liberals often advocate for a lack of physical discipline, even for children who have been warned and acted improperly. This can result in a generation of entitled individuals who struggle with basic work ethic and societal norms. Countries like Sweden, which have liberal education systems, often struggle with issues such as truancy and a lack of discipline.

Assisted Suicide

Liberals' support for assisted suicide is another controversial issue. They often portray it as a compassionate act, yet it is a risky and morally questionable practice. The state should not fund or encourage practices that can end human lives.

Love of Animals Over Humans

The reverence for animals over human life is another flaw. It is ironic that people can value animal life more than that of a suffering human. This prioritization raises ethical questions and should be re-evaluated in the context of broader human welfare.

Economic and Social Policies

Minimum Wage

Raising the minimum wage does not solve underlying economic issues. Overprinting money can lead to devaluation and inflation, ultimately harming both employers and employees. A more nuanced approach is necessary to address poverty and economic inequality.

Climate Change

The belief in constant climate change predictions is often unfounded. Earth's weather has changed naturally over billions of years, and there is no solid evidence to support the notion that human activities are the primary cause. Ignoring natural climate cycles can lead to poorly informed policies.

Abortion

Abortion is often justified based on personal choice, but it ignores the lives that are being ended. The false argument that only women can make decisions about their bodies is misleading. Abortion policies should balance individual rights with the potential life of the unborn child.

Justice

The concept of justice in liberal society is often misapplied. It is concerning when criminal justice systems fail to uphold fair and balanced judgments. For example, cities like San Francisco and New York have experienced economic and social decline due to liberal policies that prioritize leniency over punishment.

Illegal Immigration and Universal Healthcare

Liberals often advocate for illegal immigration without considering the social and economic consequences. Universal healthcare is an ideal but faces significant implementation challenges. Western nations have learned that mandatory healthcare systems can lead to inefficiencies and even harm patient outcomes.

Logical Reasoning and Critical Thinking

Another major issue is the lack of logical reasoning among liberals. This is evident in their adherence to popular opinion without critical analysis. For example, rejecting Obama's bombing of Libya due to racial insinuations or supporting George Floyd riots due to popular sentiment shows a lack of critical thought.

Conclusion

The flaws within liberalism are manifold and often stem from a lack of accountability, moral looseness, and an overemphasis on personal freedom at the expense of broader societal well-being. Although not all liberals share these characteristics, the collective mindset can have significant negative impacts on society. As a generation that has grown up in the shadow of liberalism, we must critically evaluate and address these issues to ensure a healthier and more ethical future.
