Why I'm Pursuing a Career in Fantasy Writing: Overcoming Obstacles and Embracing Imagination
Many people dream of stepping into the imaginative realms of fantasy fiction, but what stops others from pursuing this path? In this article, I will share my thoughts, struggles, and aspirations as I aim to become a fantasy novelist. Let's explore the reasons behind my journey and the challenges I face along the way.
My Lack of Discipline and Skill
When thinking about pursuing a career in writing, one of the first obstacles that can arise is the fear of not having enough discipline or the necessary skills. I, too, have had this concern. Writing a creative piece of work, especially a fantasy novel, requires a significant investment of time and effort without guarantees of success. Many aspiring writers face the same doubts, wondering if they possess the necessary discipline and skills to see their story through to completion.
Progressing from Short Stories to Novels
Despite my reservations, I find comfort in the fact that every great writer started somewhere. I have already written several fantasy short stories, and I am encouraged by the progress I have made. This journey has taught me that consistent practice and patience are key. My ultimate goal is to progress from writing short stories to crafting an entire novel. While it is a daunting task, the joy of storytelling and the desire to share my imagination with others drives me forward.
Fearing the Limitations of My Abilities
One of the major roadblocks for many aspiring writers is the fear of falling short. This fear can stem from self-doubt and a concern that one's work might not be good enough. Personally, I have experienced this kind of anxiety, but I am actively working on overcoming it. Through writing workshops, feedback from peers, and persistent self-reflection, I am gradually building the confidence I need to persevere in my pursuit of becoming a fantasy author.
Current Projects and Future Goals
Currently, I am working on a writing project. However, it is not a fantasy novel but rather a slice of life story about some fifth-grade children. Even though I am taking a different approach for now, I believe that this experience is valuable and lays a solid foundation for my future endeavors. Fantasy novel writing is still within my sights, as I see it as an ideal space to showcase my imagination and bring fantastical stories to life.
Imagination and Reality
Even though I am a scientist and a realist, I firmly believe that there is a place for imagination in my work. The role of a scientist is rooted in fact and logic, but within this framework, I can still channel my creative side through writing. Fantastical elements and imaginative scenarios can coexist with a scientific mindset. For example, a contemporary setting or realistic characters can be infused with magical or extraordinary elements, creating a unique blend that resonates with readers.
Aspiring to Share My Imagination
Although I am not yet at the point of publishing, I dream of someday becoming a published fantasy novelist. Writing stories is a source of immense joy for me, and I am determined to continue improving. Should my aspirations come to fruition, I will certainly make it a point to keep you updated on my journey and the stories I will share with the world.
If you are also passionate about writing and have faced similar challenges, I encourage you to follow your heart and never let doubts hold you back. Together, let's explore the vast worlds of imagination and creativity.
