Where is the Power Rangers TV Show Filmed?

Overview of Filming Locations

Since its debut in 1993, the Power Rangers TV show has varied its filming locations. The franchise has produced numerous series, each with its own unique setting, contributing to the show's distinct look and feel between different eras.

Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers (1993-1996)

Predominantly filmed in California, particularly around Los Angeles, the original series took advantage of various locations within and around the city. Some of the frequently-used locations included:

Bronson Canyon Vasquez Rocks Griffith Park Hahn Park Castaic Lake

For certain episodes, especially when movie shoots extended, scenes were filmed in Sydney. These locations included:

Disney Studios Australia (originally a movie set) Regent Street Station Circular Quay Old Sydney Town

A noteworthy detail is the Command Center exterior, which was the House of the Book on the Brandeis-Bardin Campus of American Jewish University in Simi Valley, composited with Vazquez Rocks. The Angel Grove High School stands at Ulysses S. Grant High School, and aerial shots of the youth center were taken from a Simi Valley church.

Later Series and International Collaborations

Many subsequent series continued to film in California. However, as the franchise incorporated footage from the Super Sentai series from Japan, New Zealand emerged as an important filming location, particularly after the production trend of using local studios and landscapes became more prevalent.

An example is Power Rangers Dino Fury, which was filmed in New Zealand. This trend highlighted the importance of adapting to international collaborations and diverse filming environments to keep the show engaging and fresh.

One interesting aspect of the production is the use of Japanese stock footage of the Super Sentai series for ranger and zord fights. This combination of original American/New Zealand footage with Japanese Super Sentai footage explains why some fight sequences can appear distinctly Japanese, even when the setting is in America or New Zealand.
