What is the Common Offer Acceptance Portal (COAP) and How Many IITs Are Participating?
Understanding the Common Offer Acceptance Portal (COAP)
The Common Offer Acceptance Portal (COAP) is a centralized, user-friendly platform designed to simplify and streamline the admission process for postgraduate programs in Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs). This initiative aims to provide a coordinated and efficient mechanism for candidates to manage their multiple admissions offers, thereby reducing confusion and enhancing the overall admission experience.
What is COAP?
The Common Offer Acceptance Portal (COAP) is a unique digital platform that works as a clearing house for candidates applying to various IITs. It facilitates a more organized approach to managing and accepting admission offers, which are typically issued by multiple IITs.
COAP simplifies the process by allowing candidates to accept or reject offers from multiple IITs in a single coordinated system, which helps in:
Reducing the administrative burden on both institutions and students Ensuring better allocation of seats and resources Maintaining transparency throughout the processParticipating Institutions
The number of participating IITs in COAP can vary from year to year. Typically, a majority of IITs in India participate in this initiative. However, the exact number and list of participating institutions can change depending on the current academic year and admission cycle.
To get the most accurate and up-to-date information on which IITs are participating in COAP for the current admission cycle, it is advisable to check the official COAP website or the individual IITs' admission portals. These resources will provide the most current and reliable information.
History and Overview
COAP has seen significant growth and expansion over its years of operation. It started with a few IITs in 2017 and gradually increased its reach. Here is a summary of the number of participating institutions over the years:
2017: COAP was introduced and eight IITs including IIT Bombay, IIT Bhubaneswar, IIT Delhi, IIT Guwahati, IIT Indore, IIT Kharagpur, IIT Madras, and IIT Roorkee joined the initiative. 2018: Seventeen institutions participated, including IISc, IIT BHU, IIT BBS, IIT B, IIT D, IIT G, IIT H, IIT I, IIT ISM Dhanbad, IIT K, IIT KGP, IIT M, IIT Mandi, IIT P, IIT R, and IIT Ropar, along with IIT Tirupati. 2019: A total of twenty-one IITs and a Public Sector Unit (PSU) NPCIL participated, resulting in a more extensive range of seat allocation and job vacancy filling.Usage of COAP
While COAP primarily serves to manage admission offers, candidates must still apply to each individual IIT through their respective portals. Once these institutions issue their admission offers, they will be consolidated in the COAP system for candidates to manage. Each year, the schedule of the ROUND (admission round) is displayed on the official website, helping candidates keep track of their applications and offers.
Schedule: Typically, the schedule of the admission rounds is announced on the COAP website. Candidates are advised to monitor this resource for updates on when applications are due and when offers will be released.
