The Evolution of My Poetry: From Youth to Today
I stared writing poetry when I was very young, around 14, when I had intense emotions I had no way to express, define, or relieve. This was the spark that ignited my journey in poetry, which has since evolved into a cherished art form and a means of self-expression.
From Youth to Today
Looking back, my earliest poems were born out of a need to find a voice. I would take a loose sheet of paper and a pencil, and carefully pour my feelings onto the page. These early pieces were mostly raw, unfiltered, and unpolished—one part teenage angst and one part earnest exploration.
Those first poems allowed me to untangle the myriad of emotions swirling within me. I felt like I had too much stuff inside, too many thoughts and feelings that demanded expression. Writing became a cathartic process, a way to clarify my thoughts and gain a better understanding of myself. Over time, I was able to develop and fine-tune my self-awareness through the art of poetry.
The Evolution of My Style
Since those early days, my poetry has evolved both in content and style. Initially, I wrote for myself, pouring out my emotions and thoughts without much consideration for form or structure. The poems were spontaneous, sometimes erratic, but they felt authentic and true to my experiences.
As I grew older, my writing became more refined. While my style hasn’t changed drastically, I’ve become more deliberate in choosing words, crafting rhythms, and exploring different themes. I still enjoy the art of the rhyme, although it’s not something I consider a strict requirement. Some of my poems do rhyme, but many do not, and that’s okay. For me, the fun lies in how words can connect in interesting and unexpected ways.
Reflection on My Poetry
Writing poetry remains a deeply personal activity for me. I often find myself penning poems when I have nothing better to do, allowing my mind to wander and my words to flow. The act of writing is therapeutic and meditative, offering a space for introspection and creativity. While I may not always share my poems with others, the process of writing them is immensely rewarding.
One of the joys of poetry is its ability to transcend time and place. Whether I’m writing now or when I was younger, my poems capture a piece of my soul and my experiences. They serve as a window into my inner world, a way to connect with my past and present, and a means to explore the complex emotions that shape who I am.
Conclusion
What started as a need to find a voice has evolved into a cherished art form. Poetry has been a constant in my life, allowing me to navigate my emotions, gain self-awareness, and express myself authentically. Whether I’m writing for myself or sharing my poems with others, the act of creating poetry remains a profound and meaningful experience.
