Assam, a state in the Northeast of India, boasts a wealth of talented IAS (Indian Administrative Service) officers who are making significant contributions to public service. Among these, Keerthi Jalli and Dr. M. Angamuthu stand out as outstanding examples of administrative excellence.
Keerthi Jalli: A Role Model for Women in Assam
Keerthi Jalli, born in 1989 in the district of Hyderabad’s Barengal, became an IAS officer in 2012 and subsequently became the first woman District Deputy Commissioner (DDC) in Hailakandi district of Assam’s Barak Valley. Her dedication and effectiveness quickly earned her recognition, with her commendable work leading to the title of 'Best Administrative Officer' in 2020 for her outstanding performance in managing the district's issues and public service.
Keerthi Jalli's marriage to Aditya Shashikant in 2021 adds a personal touch to her otherwise dual role as a pioneering woman in the IAS and a family woman. Her journey is not only inspiring but also serves as a beacon for future generations of women seeking to make a mark in the male-dominated field of administrative service.
Innovative Leadership in Northeast India
The Northeast region of India has its share of remarkable IAS officers who are leading innovative initiatives. One such officer is Prince Dhawan, DC (District Collector) of Lohit in Arunachal Pradesh. During the lockdown, Dhawan initiated a program to distribute seedlings for crops such as areca nut, banana, black pepper, orange, and turmeric to local farmers, which has significantly impacted the agricultural economy of the region.
Another notable figure is Sir Angamuthu, the DC of Kamrup in Assam. Under his leadership, the Green Bongaigaon initiative resulted in a massive eco-friendly plantation. This project is a part of the Golden Quadrilateral project of NH in Bongaigoan, earning Sir Angamuthu a Guinness World Record in the process. His portfolio spans diverse areas including biotech to GINFED (Green India Federation for Development) to Green Bongaigaon, showcasing his expertise and vision.
Dr. M. Angamuthu: Pioneering Research and Humility
Among the emerging stars in Assam, Dr. M. Angamuthu stands out as a beacon of hope and inspiration. As the ex-District Commissioner of Kamrup Metro and currently the chairman of ApEDA (Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority), Dr. Angamuthu has achieved remarkable milestones in a short span of time.
