Can an Unmarried Man Perform Tripindi Shraadha and Narayan Nagbali Puja at Trimbakeshwar During Pitrupaksha?
These two pujas together are suggested to clear off Pitru Dosha and Naga Dosha. Pitru Dosha is the curse of the ancestors, which can arise from not treating them right during their lifetime or if death rituals were not performed correctly or at all. Naga Dosha, the curse of snakes or cobras, is incurred when one kills or tortures them. All events from previous births are accumulated, leading to this dosha.
Traditionally, Shraadh can only be performed by a man whose father is no longer alive. However, there are ways to circumvent this:
Performing Pujas at Trimbakeshwar, Nashik
1. Take your parents, both mother and father, to Trimbakeshwar, Nashik. Perform the pujas with them as a couple, and you individually. If your paternal grandfather is still alive, ensure he and your paternal grandmother (if she is alive) also perform the puja. All male siblings along with their wives, if married, must participate as well. The presence of all living paternal elders and brothers provides the most relief.
When to Perform the Puja
2. If physically or economically impossible to bring all elders to Trimbakeshwar, you can go alone. Both the pujas will be performed for you.
Timing and Scheduling
3. This is a three-day puja. Schedule the pujas so that the Shraadh is performed on the tithi the grandfather or great-grandfather died. If the tithi is not known, the Shraadh should be performed either on Ashtami or Amavasya.
Performing Pujas at Trimbakeshwar Throughout the Year
4. It is not necessary to go only during Pitru Paksha. These pujas have been conducted on almost all days for long at Trimbakeshwar. Family members can offer curd rice or any other food to crows to slowly reduce Pitru Dosha. To reduce Naga dosha, visit a Kartikeya/Subramanyam Swamy temple on Tuesdays, and offer milk for the abhisheka.
