A Lifelong Journey into Fictional Storytelling: My Evolution as an Author
Writing my first short story in the early 1980s marked the beginning of a lifelong journey into the realm of fictional storytelling. I was 44 years old when I published "An Izba in Skuchnii," my debut story in a newsgroup on the internet. Despite the passage of time, I still reflect fondly on that experience, as it represents an important milestone in my writing career.
From Child to Adult: An Ever-Adapting Skill
As a child, my passion for writing surged, but as I grew older, it seemed to fade. However, in my adult years, I rediscovered my love for writing. The transition brought about a significant shift in my writing style and content. My early stories were innocent and straightforward, but as I matured, so did my narratives. Today, my works often address deeply personal and complex topics, reflecting my unique perspective and experiences. My stories are often imbued with elements of my kinks and fetishes, making them intriguing yet challenging to write.
Novels and Beyond: An Unwavering Commitment to Craft
In 1991, I decided to focus on novel writing, a decision that would shape my career trajectory. Prior to this, I had been dabbling in poetry and short stories. Over the past three decades, I have consistently honed my skills, experimenting with new ways to craft characters and narratives. My ability to describe intricate details has improved significantly, and my passion for writing remains as strong as ever. There have been moments when I felt discouraged, but my commitment to my characters has always rallied me to continue.
A Unique Perspective on Writing
Although I began writing at a later age, my late start has also imparted valuable insights and experiences. By the time I hit my 50s, I already possessed a wealth of life experiences that I could draw upon. Additionally, my condition of Asperger's syndrome gave me an extraordinary ability to retain an abundance of trivial details. While this can be debilitating in some aspects, it serves as a trove of information that enriches my storytelling. My obsessive attention to detail has also played a crucial role in my journey to become a more proficient author. I have invested countless hours in refining my craft and enhancing my storytelling abilities, driven by my unwavering love for writing.
Early Beginnings: A Child's Imagination
My earliest recollections of creative writing date back to a time when I was unable to read. Looking at children's picture books and coming up with stories helped me organize my thoughts and create a coherent world. I was constantly fascinated by the wild animals in these books, which contrasted sharply with my own dependence on parents. I collected ideas and wove them into plots to make my stories more engaging.
Once I learned to read, my storytelling abilities took a new direction. I quickly grasped the concept of a plot requiring challenging problems to be overcome. My favorite stories were those where the main character proved themselves to others. However, I still struggle with the concept of finishing a story. I find it difficult to accept that the creative process is not a linear one and that I must put a final touch on my narratives.
Conclusion: The Unending Passion for Storytelling
From my early days of making sense of the world through storytelling, to writing my first digital short stories in the 1980s, and beyond, my passion for fictional storytelling continues to evolve. The journey has been long and sometimes challenging, but it has been deeply rewarding. Whether I am writing about my personal experiences or exploring the depths of human (and sometimes fantastical) emotions, I remain committed to my craft. The love for writing, regardless of age, is a lifelong pursuit that I am honored to embrace.
